Optifast Weight Loss Programme

Optifast weight loss success

A medically-supervised weight loss program that closely monitors and assesses progress towards better health. It is based on a very low calorie diet (VLCD).

The programme provides approximately 800 kcal (or 3400kJ) of energy per day, which is less than half the energy content of conventional weight loss diets.

Despite its low calorie content, the diet contains sufficient protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals to help you lose weight safely and effectively.

The CDE OPTIFAST® Programme consists of three phases:

Intensive Phase

1. The Intensive Phase

This initial phase lasts for 8 weeks and involves consuming three scientifically formulated shakes daily, along with vegetables and salad. You'll have follow-up consultations at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks for support and education.

Food Reintroduction Phase

2. The Food Reintroduction Phase

During this 4-week period, you'll gradually reintroduce regular foods while learning how to maintain your weight loss. The program has shown an average weight loss of 1-2.5 kg per week, up to a total of 22% of baseline weight.

Weight Maintenance Phase

3. Weight Maintenance

At the 8-week consultation, your dietitian will provide you with strategies for long-term weight maintenance. This may include continuing with one shake per day or using shakes intermittently.
